of Nicosia’s Old Town buildings. These repair
works were concluded in 2013 and the building
was handed to the Nicosia Dance House’s Board
of Directors, which consists of representatives
from the three major dance organisations of the
town: the Nicosia Youth Ballet, Dance Gate and
Dance Lab, who are also in charge of managing
the building.
On 2 December 2013, the former Minister of
Education and Culture, Kyriakos Kenevezos, and
the Mayor of Nicosia, Constantinos Yiorkadjis,
launched the official opening of the building. The
programme included addresses by the Minister
and the Mayor, as well as by the Chairwoman of
the Nicosia Dance House, Arianna Economou.
The opening was followed by a cultural
programme, with excerpts from ballet classics
performed by children of the NicosiaYouth Ballet,
the
Flow
project in choreography and execution
by Hamilton Monteiro, and the work
Body Signs
/ InBetween
(choreography and execution by Julia
Anna Brendle).
