About the A.G. Leventis Foundation
The A. G. Leventis Foundation formally came
into being in May 1979 and had begun to operate
on a small scale by the end of that year. Over the
following three years the scope and volume of its
activities gradually increased, so that within thir-
ty years of its founder’s death, theA. G. Leventis
Foundation can claim a fully-fledged operating
record of more than twenty five years.
The main areas of the Foundation’s activities
were determined in the early days of its exist-
ence. Since then, there has been organic devel-
opment and expansion within these fields but
no major change of direction. From the first, the
Trustees used as guidelines the range and direc-
tion of the philanthropic interests of the founder
himself and decided, in Cyprus, Greece and in
other parts of Europe, to focus to a large extent
on culture and education with special emphasis
on the cultural heritage of Cyprus.
Active in Cyprus and abroad
In Greece the Foundation has supported a wide
range of organisations and events in cultural and
historic fields. The main emphasis, however, has
been on the restoration of a number of monu-
ments from various periods, primarily in North-
ern Greece but also in other parts of the coun-
