yprus Film Days, the official international
fiction feature film festival of Cyprus, show-
casing some of the best foreign and local films of
the year, opened simultaneously in Limassol and in
Nicosia on 4April 2014.
The second Palestinian film ever to be nominated
for an Academy Award in Best Foreign Language
Film,
Omar
by HanyAbu-Assad, opened the festi-
val in Limassol. The film is a political thriller and
a love story set in one of the world’s most dramatic
conflict zones. It won the Jury Prize in Un Certain
Regard at Cannes Film Festival.
But the big winner of the Festival was
Stratos
, by
Yiannis Economides, which was awarded the Best
FilmAward by the
Cyprus FilmDays
International
Jury at anAward Ceremony on 13April 2014.
On the opening night, the percussion group
Batu-
kinio
marked the beginning of the festival with a
fantastic performance at the Rialto Theatre in Li-
massol. After the screening of the opening film, a
party followed at Art Studio 55, featuring the band
Latin Touch
.
On my way
, by Emmanuelle Bercot – starring ac-
claimed actress Catherine Deneuve as a 60-year-
old woman striving to get away from whatever
connects her to her past – was the opening film of
the festival at Zena Palace Cinema in Nicosia.

ebrated the opening of
Cyprus Film Days
in
Nicosia. Following the screening of the open-
ing film, music band
Justeeze
performed at the
opening party.
