of George Orwell,
Animal Farm,
directed
by Andreas Christodoulides, with shows begin-
ning on 15 May and ending on 6 July 2014.
Animal Farm
is an allegorical and dystopian
novel by George Orwell, published in England
on 17 August 1945. According to Orwell, the
book reflects events leading up to the Russian
Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalin
era in the Soviet Union.
The plot
Old Major, the aged boar on Manor Farm, sum-
mons the animals on site together for a meeting,
during which he refers to humans as parasites
and teaches the animals a revolutionary song
called Beasts of England. When Major dies,
two young pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, as-
sume command and consider it a duty to pre-
pare for the Rebellion. The animals revolt and
drive the drunken and irresponsible farmer Mr
Jones from the farm, renaming it Animal Farm.
They adopt Seven Commandments of Animal-
ism, the most important of which is, “All ani-
mals are equal.”

Eric Arthur Blair (25 June 1903-21 January
1950), known by his pen name George Orwell,
was an English novelist, essayist, journalist
and critic. His work is marked by lucid prose,
awareness of social injustice, opposition to to-
talitarianism, and commitment to democratic
socialism.
Commonly ranked as one of the most influen-
tial English writers of the 20
th
century and as
one of the most important chroniclers of Eng-
lish culture of his generation, Orwell wrote lit-
erary criticism, poetry, fiction and polemical
journalism. He is best known for the dystopian
novel
Nineteen Eighty-Four
(1949) and the
allegorical novella
Animal Farm
(1945). His
