T
his issue of Cyprus Today starts off with the events held on the island to celebrate
International Museum Day. Cyprus, as a small country with less than a million residents,
has a relatively impressive amount of 92 museums. Read on to see how some of these celebrated
their designated day.
We then take our readers through the bilingual anthology
Stories by Greek Cypriots and Turkish
Cypriots
, which was recently published in Greek and Turkish by the Cultural Services of the Ministry
of Education and Culture, and aims to further strengthen mutual understanding between Cyprus’ two
biggest communities. The anthology includes 54 stories by 44 authors – 26 Greek Cypriot and 18
Turkish Cypriot.
Film lovers will no doubt have been excited to visit
Cyprus Film Days
, the official international
fiction feature film festival of Cyprus, showcasing some of the best foreign and local films of the
year, which opened simultaneously in Limassol and in Nicosia 4 April 2014.
TheA. G. Leventis Gallery opened its first temporary exhibition
Representations and Interpretations
– The Pioneers of Cypriot Art
on 16 May 2014. The exhibition consists of works that are part of
The
Cyprus Collection
of the A. G. Leventis Gallery and belong to the first generation of Cypriot artists
and to artists of the inter-war years, who were born between 1884 and 1937.

Moving on to the emerging dance scene of Cyprus, the successful example of the Limassol
Contemporary Dance House played a catalytic role in the dance community’s efforts to find a
building and set up a Dance House for the dance community of Nicosia. Read on and find out more
about this initiative.
This is followed by the 2

Cyprus International Performance Art Festival (CIPAF), which included
Screenings and Live Performances as well as an intensive Performance Art workshop.
The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra (CySO) paid tribute to the 150
th
birth anniversary of the post-
Wagnerian composer Richard Strauss (1864 - 1949), with two concerts under the music direction
of Alkis Baltas, while the 14
th
International Pharos Chamber Music Festival welcomed to Cyprus
some of the most remarkable artists of the international music scene for an extensive week of music-
making in two unique venues in Cyprus.
Finally, no issue of Cyprus Today would be complete without taking a look at what the world of
literature has to offer. The new and hotly anticipated book by author of three best-selling books and
life coach Andreas Ioannou
, The Diary of a Happy Woman
, was launched in April, while the Pharos
Arts Foundation, in collaboration with the Moufflon Bookshop, presented a talk by Professor Joan
Breton Connelly and the launch of her book
The Parthenon Enigma
, in June.
