The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation
The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation joined
in International Museum Day celebrations
with an exhibition entitled
Cyprus Banknotes:
Environment-History-Folk Art
. Their iconography
through the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation
Collections opened on 16 May.
On 18 May, there were guided tours of the
Museum, with visitors taken through the George
and Nefeli Giabra Pierides Antiquities Collection,
the Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage,
the
Cyprus Banknotes
exhibition and the
Cyprus
and Geology
exhibition.
There were also treasure hunts and craft making
activities for children.
Other events to mark
International Museum Day
On 18 May, the Cyprus Folk Art Museum hosted
a series of International Museum Day events
throughout the day. These included presentation
of traditional crafts, a Greek-language musical re-
telling a Cypriot fairy-tale and traditional Cypriot
games and Cypriot shadow theatre performances.
An art exhibition entitled
Re-Cyprus!’
, organised
by the Ministry of Education and Culture’s
Secondary Education Department and Frederick
University opened at on 18 May.
Pupils of the Music School of Nicosia-Larnaca,
under the instruction of Christodoros Mnasonos,
performed traditional music from Cyprus, Asia
Minor and Constantinople.
The State Gallery of Cypriot Contemporary Art
and National Struggle Museum hosted events as
part of a related but separate
Night of the Museums
celebration. The National Struggle Museum gave
a guided tour and film screening at 6pm.

, a conversation on selected
works in the state collection with researchers
Christina Lambrou and Elena Parpa, and painter
and art educator Polys Peslikas.
Concluding the celebrations at the State Gallery
was popular Cypriot band Monsieur Doumani,
performing a variety of Cypriot traditional songs.
