A
pocalypse Gallery in Nicosia hosted an
exhibition of artworks and mosaics by
acclaimed Cypriot artist George Kotsonis, from
4 - 21 November 2015. The exhibition was
inaugurated by the President of the Republic of
Cyprus, Mr Nicos Anastasiades.
According to art critics Dr Nadia Anaxogora
and Christodoulos Callinos, George Kotsonis
is unquestionably one of Cyprus’ leading
contemporary artists. His work is characterised
by stability, magnificence, reflection, clarity
and tranquillity.
His compositions are based on an excellent
organisation of the design contour and the
purity of the painting surface when it comes to
his painting, and clean materials when it comes
to his mosaics.
Kotsonis’ work focuses on depicting the female
form, based on two main elements: inner
and outer beauty. His nude depictions unveil
one of the academic artist’s most substantive
convictions: that the search for beauty is
perhaps the essence of artistic activity, and of
art per se.
His landscapes and seascapes, his female
nudes and figures in a stance of reminiscence,
reflection, erotic devotion or maternal ecstasy,
are sculpted through an abstract realism to
match that unrivalled feeling of transcendental
calm and serenity.
