Larnaca
presented the new artwork of
Irma Voulgari in her exhibition
Overexposure,
which opened on 13 December 2013 and was
addressed by visual artist Evros A. Evriviades.
The exhibition, which lasted until 24 Decem-
ber, focused on Nature, a primary source of
inspiration for artists throughout the centuries.
The new work of Irma Voulgari takes up where
her previous left off. She abandons everyday
life and the chaotic urban landscape of her
last exhibition and through her own vision she
transports us to a natural environment of an un-
known world. She uses ink to create shapes and
landscapes, abstract and strange but in some
way familiar, as if they dig up distant memo-
ries from the subconscious. Is it a thunderous
sky that looms ominously, clouds about to burst
open, a forest
fi
re raging in the distance, or
nothing of the kind? The use of light is crucial
in this journey of transformation. But what it
reveals is perhaps less important than what it
hides. Irma does not dictate what we are seeing,
but instead she creates a vision of harmony that
the viewer can tap into.
