, the
fi
rst-ever
theatrical play in English about the Turkish inva-
sion of Cyprus, have revealed the names of the tal-
ented cast who will be performing in the upcom-
ing war drama in February 2014. The lead female
roles have been taken by Galatia Zenonos in the
character of Kyrenia, Nedie Antoniades as Mor-
phou and Christina Marouchou in the part of Varo-
sha. Moreover, Christopher Greco will play Arch-
bishop Makarios III, Andreas Papamichalopoulos
the role of a Cypriot soldier and Paul Lambis will
appear as a Turkish soldier. Eleni Odysseos will
play Varosha’s mother and Christos Gregoriades
will act as the Narrator.
The plot revolves around the 1974 incidents of
the coup d’état and subsequent invasion of Cy-
prus. On 15 July 1974, the ruling military junta
of Greece carried out a coup to overthrow the
democratically elected government of Cyprus.
On 20 July 1974, using the coup as a pretext and
in violation of international law, Turkey invaded
Cyprus, purportedly to restore constitutional order.
Instead it seized 36.2% of the sovereign territory
of the Republic, an act universally condemned as
a gross infringement of international law and the
UN Charter.
Paul Lambis’war drama is a story of love, loss, life
and death seen through the eyes of three women,
with one constant that anchors their stories and ties
them all together: their hope for the island’s reuni-
fi
cation.
