Women – Sculpture Exhibition by Dinos Michaelides
G
loria Art Gallery in Nicosia hosted erotic
artist Dinos Michaelides’ sculpture exhi-
bition entitled
Women
on 29 December, 2012
until 15 January, 2013.
The exhibition was opened by DISY leader, Mr
Nicos Anastasiades.
Dinos Michaelides devotes his limited leisure
time to his beloved hobby of ceramic sculpture.
The main theme of his present work devoted
to woman
is characterised by sensationalism, a
high degree of eroticism and a tasteful sense of
humour; earmarking his talent as an exception-
al sculptor, while emerging as a very talented,
spiritual, insightful, observant and humorous
creator.
Michaelides constantly studies human nature
and attempts to project it through his art. His fe-
male figurines exude eroticism and human feel-
ing but are still provocative, with intense heavy
make-up, painted nails and plenty of jewellery.
Great attention is paid to hair colour, style and
texture, while clothing is minimal and often
very revealing, especially when it comes to the
chest area. Through his conjectural view of the
dresses, the artist speaks to the viewer in a bid
to bring the clay to life and project provoking
beauty. Some of Michaelides’ sculptors, with
their legs opened discreetly, are reminiscent
of the iconic Basic Instinct scene, where Sha-
ron Stone crosses her legs provocatively when
being questioned by police, without wearing
any underwear. Those familiar with Dinos
Michaelides’ work were not disappointed by
his latest contribution.
The artist “dresses” his women in bright and
colourful clothes, in a bid to bring the clay to
life and project stimulating and confrontational
beauty. His work “speaks” to the viewer.
