ASpiritual Exploration of the Future
The theme of the

was the expansion of the preceding Biennale
theme, environmental concerns and human exist-
ence. This time around, artists from all over the
word were invited to take on the role of forecasters
in a spiritual exploration of the future – they were
expected to reveal the workings of society and to
draw conclusions for understanding it more effec-

tems or by poeticising human accomplishments,
the participating artists were encouraged to predict

work might consciously facilitate social change
