Actor, director and translator
Yiorgos Kimo-
ulis
was born in Piraeus. He first took the stage
in 1977 with the theatre group Free Theatre. In
1986 Kimoulis formed his own theatre group, The
Contemporary Theatre of Athens, and in 1996 he
founded his own drama school. He is a member of
the Greek Actors Union, where he served as vice
president. He is also a member of the Greek Play-
wrights Guild.
Actor and director
Konstantinos Markoulakis
was born inAthens. In 1991 he graduated from the
Greek National Theater Drama School and began
working in theatre, cinema and television. In 2007
he and G. Lykiardopoulos founded the artistic or-
ganization CoYoT in Chora Theatre. He has been
collaborating with Yiorgos Kimoulis since 2010.
Stage Walkers
(23-24 September, Makarios III Amphitheatre,
Strovolos)
It is the end of the 2nd centuryAD, and the Roman
Empire is crumbling – it is the end of an era. In this
time of decay and decline, three theatre groups ar-
rive from three different corners of the Empire. They
meet in an open air theatre and begin an improvised
drama contest based on those of the “glorious past”.
In a lively scenic synthesis that reaches deep back in
time, beginning with ancient Greek drama and trav-
elling through the Roman period, the history of thea-
tre comes alive on stage. Extracts from Greek and
Roman tragedies and comedies, hymns and chorals,
mime, impressive combats and acrobatics, and spec-
tacular fire demonstrations –elements of the Roman
arena– make for a colourful, enchanting, diverse,
charming and moving collage of performances.
