he Ministry of Education and Culture,
the European Film Academy and ARTos
Foundation, with the support of NeMe Arts
Centre, welcomed short-film lovers to the
festival of awarded European short films,
Short
Matters
.
During the festival, the best European short
films of the European Film Academy were
presented for the 9
th
consecutive year. The
screenings took place at ARTos Foundation in
Nicosia, on 16 - 18 September, and at NeMe
Arts Centre in Limassol on 23 – 24 September
2015.
Short Matters
is the European FilmAcademy’s
short film tour, which brings the short films
nominated for the European Film Awards to a
series of film festivals and institutions across
Europe, and beyond. From various regions
of Europe – Belgium, Bulgaria, France,
Germany, Ireland, Palestine, Portugal, Russia,
Spain, The Netherlands, UK and Ukraine –
the 2014 SHORT MATTERS Programme is
a manifold panorama of young contemporary
European filmmaking, featuring the short
films nominated for the European FilmAwards
2014.
The 2,900 members of the European Film
Academy selected
The Chicken,
by Belgian
filmmaker Una Gunjak, as the overall winner.
The short film was presented at the 27th
European Film Awards Ceremony in Berlin, in
December 2014.
The short film initiative is organized by the
European Film Academy in co-operation
with a series of film festivals throughout the
continent. During each of these festivals, an
independent jury presents one of the European
short films participating in the competition
with a nomination in the short film category
of the European Film Awards. In order to be
considered for the short film initiative, short
films have to be selected for the competition
section of any one of these partner festivals:

Conde - International Film Festival/Portugal;
Encounters Short Film and Animation Film
Festival Bristol; Festival del film Locarno/
