Human Dimension
T
he Loukia and Michael Zampelas Art Mu-
seum hosted an exhibition of paintings and
sculptures by artist Mary Papademas entitled
Human Dimension
, on 16 November, 2012. The
exhibition was inaugurated by the Ambassador of
Austria in Cyprus, H.E. Dr Karl
Müller
.
The exhibition included the artist’s new work, in-
spired by the three-dimensional
nature of the hu-
man personality, which finds expression especially
in her sculptures where you can identify the con-
scious filming of human being, the subconscious
nature hiding behind the external appearance and
the vain maybe desire of projecting inward am-
bitions. Despite the fact that human beings have
similar characteristics, they are so different, a fact
that Mary revealed very artistically in these works,
playing with colours as well as gold and silver,
pointing out individuality.
Mary Papademas was born in Cyprus. She stud-
ied law at the University of Athens and acquired
a postgraduate degree in Criminology. However,
being the wife of a diplomat and travelling around
the world, it was rather difficult to follow a law-
yer’s profession.
Although her love and interest in art goes back to
childhood, she discovered her artistic inclination
and talent in the surroundings of the beautiful city
of Stockholm.
She followed art courses in an art school in Stock-
holm and her initial work was mainly conceived
and materialised in Sweden. She paints in oil and
canvas and her conception is the contemporary ex-
pression of psychological and natural phenomena
in abstract painting, combining the use of gold and
silver.
In January 2004, she took part in a group exhibi-
tion with five of her paintings, organised by the
Diplomatic Women’s Club of Stockholm at the
Polish Cultural Institute, together with another six
artists.
Her paintings received very warm comments. In
