he exhibition DESCENDANCE, an ex-
ceptional statement of art, combined the
works of the late couple Tasos and Katy Steph-
anides, and their son Panos Stephanides.
Tasos and Katy are seen as two of the most sig-
nificant artists to ever come out of Cyprus, play-
ing a pivotal role in the island’s cultural scene.
Their love for art lives on through their son
Panos Stephanides, who presented selected
works by himself and his parents at the Apoca-
lypse Gallery in February and March. The ex-
hibition included works by the late artists that
were shown to the public for the first time.
The exhibition was opened by the Mayor of Ni-
cosia, Constantinos Yiorkadjis.
Stephanides family: a major chapter in Cy-
prus art and culture
“This is the first time that the Nicosia public
will get the chance to see works by the three
artists of this great family, which constitutes
a major chapter of Cyprus’ art and culture, to-
gether in one room,” says the owner of Apoca-
lypse Gallery, Natasha Tofaridou. “This offers
visitors the opportunity to observe the works
together, to discover hidden dialogues, to deci-
pher their interactions through continuity, both
artistic – in regards to the creators – as well as
biological, as the son inherits his talent from the
mother and father.”
