Films entered in the national and international
sections of the
2
nd
International Short Film Festi-
val of Cyprus
competed for monetary awards and
prizes, and 16 short films by Cypriot filmmak-
ers won awards worth more than €20,000. Stu-
dents from the
Cyprus University of Technology
(Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts)
awarded the Student PrizeAward to the short film
of their choice.
The opening party took place at Art Studio
55 (adjacent to Rialto Theatre) right after the
screenings. As part of the celebration, pianist-
composer Stavros Lantsias was accompanied
by musicians Yiorgos Kaloudis
(cello, Cretan
Lyra & percussions) andAndreas Polyzogopou-
los (trumpet & flugelhorn).
An exciting pro-
gramme of shorts, events and workshops ran in
parallel to the festival at Art Studio 55 on all
other festival nights.
The selection of films and the programme screen-
ings and parallel events were undertaken by the ar-
tistic committee, film directors Alexia Roider and
Ioakim Mylonas. The five-member international
jury comprised the following film professionals
and directors:
• Antonis Papadopoulos: (President of the jury),
Artistic Director of the International Short
Film Festival in Drama–Greece.
• Insa Wiese: Artistic Director of the Regens-
burg Short FilmWeek–Germany.
• Joe Tunmer: Director, 2

Film at the International Short Film Festival of
Cyprus 2011 for
Conversation Piece

Kingdom.
• Elias Demetriou: Director, Glocal Images
Award at Cyprus Film Days International
Film Festival 2012 for film

• Gerald Weber: Sixpack Films, International
Distribution & Sales agency for Austrian
short and experimental films and videos–
Austria.
TheAwards
This year’s
International Short Film Festival of
Cyprus
closed its curtain on 20 October at its
awards ceremony, which included a unique one-
off performance by actor Marios Ioannou. The
jury emphasised what a challenging and difficult
task it was to select the awarded films.
