n September, in Pafos, seven young artists
created a contemporary cultural mosaic of
installations and performances. The inSITE
Exhibition, which opened on 21 September
at the Nea Pafos’ Archaeological Site, was a
document of their dialogue with the surround-
ing space and its history. Using a variety of
media, including installations, photography,
mixed media, video and theatre performance,
the artists deconstructed the historically and
culturally charged content of the archaeologi-
cal site and brought a one-of-a-kind experience
to visitors.
Transcendental in relation to its differential and
fragmental character, this mosaic of artwork
combined the primitive with the novel, the his-
torical with the fictional, the real with the myth-
ical, and the present with the absent. Through a
renegotiation of the meaning of “mosaic”, visi-
tors were provided with newfound visuals and
offered a new understanding of the archaeolog-
ical site’s historical and cultural meaning.
