A Tribute to Nikiforos Vrettakos

The start of the evening was part of the 100
Thousand Poets for Change fight against pov-
erty. Poets at the event read their work aloud,
as did poets at simultaneous events in 450 cities
around the world. This portion of Poetry: Your
name: Bread on the Table was broadcast live on
the radio. Its goal was to stress the importance
of social intervention through poetry. The sec-
ond part of the event was a tribute to Greek poet
Nikiforos Vrettakos in celebration of the 100
th
anniversary of his birth. Vrettakos’s poems were
read aloud and set to music. Part of the proceeds
from the museum’s bill of sale went to charity.

An all-day event that included shadow plays,
dramatized story-telling, bread decoration work-
shops and other bakery surprises.
Performance: Words out of a Trough
8 October 2012
The dramatization of myths and legends from
Cypriot, Greek and broader Mediterranean tra-
ditions, to celebrate the adoption of Limassol’s
declaration for the future of the EU’s maritime
policy. The event was held at the Eirini Room
on Ledras Street in Nicosia.
