tors to talk to the exhibits and for the exhibits to
respond. If this sort of communication is difficult,
Ms. Voskaridou is there to translate the exhibits’
language so visitors can get to know the exhibits
– in Greek, knowledge is defined as the relation-
ship between the knower and the object. The goal
of
To Ploumisto Psomi
is to build and nourish a
relationship between visitors and the exhibits, be-
tween visitors and their history.
Take Home a Piece of the Museum
The

museum shop sells
dough-made artefacts, replicas of museum items
and contemporary dough creations by Ms. Voska-
ridou herself – all proceeds from museum shop
sales are returned to the museum to support its
programmes, which include cultural events re-
lated to bread-baking; these programmes are held
regularly and are open to the public.
Bread Takes Part in the Cyprus Presidency
of the EU Council
An important moment for the museum was a
series of events during the Cyprus Presidency
of the Council of the European Union in Sep-
tember and October. A mobile exhibition of
decorated breads was held in Nicosia for three
weeks in tandem with a scientific symposium
on bread featuring nutritionist Dr Eleni An-
dreou and theologist Dr Yiannis Bekos. As part
of the mobile exhibition, Ms. Voskaridou ex-
plained the cultural significance of decorated
breads and Antigone Ioannidou explained their
symbols. Other events included:
A bread-tasting night with singer and musi-
cian Pavflina Constantopoulou
A tribute to poet Nikiforos Vrettakos with
talks by poets Titos Patrikios and Yiannis
Baskozos
A dramatised tale presented by choreogra-
pher and theatrologist Chloe Melidou with
the participation of actor Marina Vrondi
and musicians Alkis Agathokleous and Ravi
Saundankar
Storytelling by Antigone Ioannidou and tra-
ditional songs by Michalis Mozoras.
A remarkable start for a promising future…
