n exhibition of selected works from the
Cyprus Photographic Competition 2012
was held on 15 January at the Melina Merk-
ouri Hall in Nicosia.
The competition, which was inaugurated by
the former Deputy Mayor of Nicosia, Nicos
Nouris (representing Mayor Constantinos
Yiorkadjis), was organised by the Cyprus Pho-
tographic Society – Nicosia Branch, with the
support of the Cultural Services of the Minis-
try of Education and Culture, and the Munici-
pality of Nicosia.
In total, 103 Cypriot photographers took part,
with judges having to choose just 175 from
over 1,300 photos.
The competition had four themes: Colour
– Free, Monochrome – Free, Experimental
Photography, and there was a Special Theme:
Nature.
The judging panel – comprising of Jacky Mar-
tin from France, who is Vice President of the
International Federation of Photographic Art,
Michalis Georgiades who is a director, cin-
ematographer and professional photographer,
and Koullis Arkatitis, who is a banker and
photographer – convened in October to decide
on the winners.
