The conference highlighted issues involving
Cyprus, from the Leontios Machairas era to to-

lore. President Demetris Christofias launched
the conference with a speech during the open-
ing ceremony.
The conference was also addressed by University
of Cyprus (UCY) rector Professor Constantinos
Christofides, the head of the scientific commit-
tee Professor Michalis Pieris, and members of
the scientific committee: Professors Marie-Paule
Masson from the University of Montpellier, Dav-
id Holton from the University of Cambridge and
Renata Lavagnini from the University of Paler-
mo. The conference was enriched by three impor-
tant events: the theatrical show
The Chant of the
Bridge
at UCY during the opening ceremony, a
performance of works by Sicilian musician Mar-
toretta by Re-sonati Ensemble, and a performance
by the Montpelier band Mora Vocis.
