Art, then won a scholarship to study Graphic
Design at Ealing School of Art from 1968-71.
After Ealing he studied Advanced Typograph-
ical Design at the London College of Printing
and attended workshops in Etching and Draw-
ing at Byam Shaw School of Art, followed by
life classes at the Slade, the Prince’s Drawing
School and elsewhere. On graduation, Lavi-
this was hired at the “Daily Mail”, starting
out in the publicity department in 1974. He
worked for the newspaper for thirty years,
opting for early retirement, seven years ago,
to devote himself to his art. He also built a
career in graphic design and publishing while
employed at the “Daily Mail”. He ran his own
advertising and promotions business, Tophill
Advertising and Promotions Ltd, and became
a design and graphics consultant.
His published books, under the imprint of In-
terworld Publications, include several titles:
“Paphos, Land of Aphrodite” Tourist Guide –
last edition now 224 pages; “Explore Cyprus”
Tourist Guide – first edition published in the
late 1980s, followed by several other editions
and re-prints; “Cyprus in Pictures”, An illus-
trated Guide. Another of Lavithis’s publications,
“Aphrodite, the Mythology of Cyprus”, was
written and compiled with well-known Cypriot
painter Stass Paraskos.
Lavithis has had many exhibitions of his artwork,
both group and solo shows. From 1963 until to-
day, Renos has exhibited in 20 or more exhibi-
tions, seven of them solo exhibitions, at venues
including the Hilton Nicosia, Paphos Town Hall,
the Hellenic Centre in London, the Britannia
Centre in London, Gallery 47 in Central London,
Bankside Gallery in Central London, the Barnet
Guild of Artists, Barnet Art Society, Luton Muse-
um, Ayot St Lawrence Art Festival, Herts Visual
Art Forum, St Albans and elsewhere.
Some of his works are in public and private
collections, including The Zambellas and
Struggle Museum Collections in Nicosia and
